The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)) was officially established in June 2022 and is a cooperatively-run higher education institution between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The College of Education Sciences (CES) functions as an academic unit under HKUST (GZ) and is responsible for planning, designing and organizing compulsory general courses, compulsory STEAM basic courses, and language education courses for freshmen and sophomores.

 

We are seeking for several capable and self-motivated candidates to work as the lab technicians in the areas of Physics/Biology/Computer Science/Chemistry in the Department of UG Teaching Labs in the College of Education Sciences. The appointee will be stationed in Nansha, Guangzhou.

 

Duties

1. Assist in the construction, equipment procurement and IT system of the UG teaching labs (Physics/Biology/Computer Science/Chemistry) to ensure the proper and safe running of the labs.

2. Responsible for formulating the lab manuals, processes, rules and regulations of the UG teaching labs (Physics/Biology/Computer Science/Chemistry).

3. Responsible for managing the UG teaching labs (Physics/Biology/Computer Science/Chemistry) with duties including managing the laboratory booking, preparing the laboratory setup for the classes, checking & maintaining the instruments regularly, updating inventories of supplies & facilities, etc.

4. Responsible for teaching the lab courses (Physics/Biology/Computer Science/Chemistry) with the teaching assistants under the guidance of the course instructors.

5. Liaise with the Division of STEM Education, the faculty team, and students for UG teaching affairs.

6. Other ad hoc tasks assigned by the Head of UGTL.

Qualification Requirements

1. A Master's degree or above in Physics/Biology/Computer Science/Chemistry from an accredited college or university;

2. At least 3 years’ demonstrated experience working in the laboratories of the higher education sector or laboratory setting with technical experiences;

3. At least 3 years’ demonstrated teaching experiences in lab courses, preferably with experience working with and supervising a diverse undergraduate student body;

4. A good level of proficiency in spoken and written English;

5. Be passionate in teaching and learning, proactive and take the initiative at work, a dynamic and self-directed learner, and competent in managing multiple assignments concurrently.
